How we write
We aim for a neutral, factual tone. Where the medieval sources disagree, or where historians are uncertain, we say so rather than picking one version. Translations and dates are given as they appear in standard scholarly references.

Images on this site are freely licensed or in the public domain, mostly from Wikimedia Commons. Each image is credited in its caption with the creator, the licence and a link to its source page. We do not use images from Marvel or Disney films or comics.
